PRODUCTION & DESIGN

This canvas & leather combined, all purpose kit with rustic accents is meant to be passed on to future generations.

This highly attractive leather knife roll contains 10 pockets to store your most coveted chef knives and neatly folds up with a leather cord allowing you to carry them everywhere you go with style and flare. Perfect for all chefs, from beginners to professionals, this knife roll is diligently handmade with sturdy canvas, full grain leather and rustic brass hardware, giving your blades a protective, chic home.

The flesh side of the soft leather is first stained with natural drab tone and finished with our proprietary beeswax conditioner. Our unique treatment not only helps the product to retain its shape without the aid synthetic stabilizers, it also eliminates the need for a lining (often the first to tear) offering a natural and durable look.

When we think of a typical chef, the white hat comes into mind. This tradition, along with many others in the kitchen, dates back over 2,000 years. According to legend, as early as 7 A.D., chefs in Assyria wore hats in the shape of crowns to stand apart from the kitchen help. It wasn't until the early 19th Century that the French started primarily using white colors due to its connection to cleanliness and hygiene. Functionality aside, the pleats were symbolic of the number of recipes the chef knew, with more pleats meaning a higher level of experience.

Water resistant canvas is a woven fabric, sturdy and resilient by nature. The word canvas derives from the Latin word "Cannabis", or "Hemp", and while modern day canvas is made with linen, cotton or synthetic materials, hemp was originally used as the primary material. Over 5000 years ago, China was producing cloth made of hemp fiber, a material they discovered to be water resistant and very durable. Throughout Europe, this material was quickly adopted for the making of sails of ships, but it wasn't until 1,200 BC that the Greeks and Phoenicians were the first to begin trading by ship. Nowadays, with the correct synthetic materials used, an excellent water resistant canvas fabric can be created, and it has become a key player in the architectural, industrial and marine fields.

Waxed canvas is an ancient material, one of the oldest, in fact, and is still in use nowadays. It really is exemplary of a material that is tried, tested and true over time. Originating in Scotland in the 1850's waxed canvas was created for and by seafarers and mariners, by rubbing linseed oil into the cloth. This resulted in an incredibly durable fabric that repelled water, a popular choice for the sails and clothing of the sailors who ruled the waves. Being lightweight and durable, waxed canvas became the clothing of choice for the British Navy, Army and Air force during the Second World War, an attribute no other military possessed at that time.

Fast forward to today, and the wax is no longer rubbed onto the canvas. Instead the canvas is made with the oil embedded into the fibers, which allows the material to grow old with style and grace. The use of the fabric is now world wide, and is becoming more fashionable rather than sporty, all the while retaining its rugged personality.

Our canvas comes from the highly respected supplier Lonas Segovia, the oldest canvas maker in Guatemala. The seams are sewn using bonded nylon thread with a burned and melted finish offering no loose ends during your travel.

Great Knife Roll!

This knife roll is very sturdy and well constructed. It's made out of nice thick, heavy canvas and leather. I've had other knife rolls in the past and my main problem with them is that because I keep my knives nice and sharp they cut through them. I've also had problems with the knives falling out. So far with this knife roll, I have had none of these issues. It holds my knives great and there's plenty of space to keep all my essential knives neatly organized, protected, and ready to go. I would highly recommend it.

Exactly What I Needed

This knife roll has enough slots for everything I carry and a few extra. The canvas material and all the stitching appear very sturdy. The leather knife cover is soft, pliable, and attractive with a smooth finished look on the top side. The underside of the leather, the side in contact with your knives, has a soft suede finish. I noticed some bits of the suede had rubbed off against one of my knife blades but it only happened once so I don't think it's a problem, just a few loose bits. My longest knife is a 9 inch chef and just barely fits. A 10+ inch knife or steel may not fit in this roll. I looked at very many similar products including leather rolls costing hundreds of dollars. This knife roll is reasonably priced. Quality and durability are better than expected.
